Washer Toss Rules

  • Player Position

The player throwing the washer must be on top of the board, with all toes behind the edge of the board. The player may lean, bend, or crouch as long as the toes of the player are on the board before the washer leaves their hand and after the washer comes to a complete rest and the entire time in between.

  • Scoring

Points are scored when a player tosses a washer through an opposing board’s hole. The holes are score 1-point for the closest hole to the tosser, 2-points for the middle hole, and 3-points for the farthest hole from the tosser. The opposing team tosser, or the second tosser, can cencel out the points scored by first tosser, but only in the same hole. For example, if both tossers have a washer in the 3-point hole, both teams cancel out each other and no points are rewarded. In the same scenario, if the second tosser also has a washer in the 2-point hole without the first tosser having a washer in the 2-point hole, the second tosser is awarded 2 points.

  • End of Game

The game is played to 21 points. This first team to reach 21 without going over wins. If a team goes over 21, they go back to 13. If the player needs scores 21 but has washers left, they must make contact with the TOP of the board with the remaining washers. If the board is missed with any of the washers, their round is null and does not count. The second team tossing can cancel out a win by canceling out points scored by the other team.

  • Washer Toss Etiquette

Some sports it is important to remain quiet while the player is performing. Not in this sport, actually it is the opposite here. It is rude to remain silent in this game, trash must be talked! So think up ways of intimidating and getting in your opponents head while they toss. Just be sure not to make contact with the washer or the player while they throw. If contact is made with the washer or the player in the toss, the tosser may decide where that washer landed.

  • Penalties

If a tosser has their toes over the board when tossing, their round is null and does not count. The other team still gets to take their turn, or count what they have scored without point cancelation.

If the tosser misses the board, their round is null and does not count. The other team still gets to take their turn, or count what they have scored without point cancelation.

If contact is made with the washer, board, or player by an opposing team, they tosser can state where the washer goes.

  • Disputes

If there are any disputes during play, please see Sara and Pat Blair. They will make the ultimate decision, unless Pat disagrees, then Sara is right anyways lol.

If Sara and Pat are involved in the dispute, the decision will fall to the youngest person in attendance (diapers or not).
